Insulated Glass Units

BENEFITS & COMPONENTS

Long gone are the days when our standard sealed unit was made with two pieces of 4mm clear float.

In modern construction there are a variety of challenges facing transparent wall partitions.

In today’s energy conscious world, and as a result of legislation changes, sealed units are now made with glass containing  low emissivity coatings to meet the current regulations.

Historically the spacer bar was aluminum or galvanized steel, but the shift towards more energy efficient sealed units has seen an increase in Warm Edge spacer bars made of materials much more thermally efficient than metal.

Thanks to modern technology double glazing can prevent  heat loss and also can protect against over-heating. Noise reduction, safety glass and UV protection are additional features that can be incorporated to enhance performance.

Advances in the technology of modern glass types have enabled even more benefits to be gained from a standard sealed unit. Self cleaning, solar reflection or solar control options may now be demanded, combined with the more.

Glass technology has advanced over the years in terms of performance and the overall offering. You are able to add additional benefits such as self-cleaning and Solar control to increase levels of comfort.

SEALED UNITS

STRUCTURE

A glazed unit consists of at least two panes of glass which has an internal cavity filled with  either air or gas. The double or triple glazed unit is sealed around the perimeter using a multi-step combination process. The spacer bar cavity is filled with moisture adsorbent desiccants.

AIR TIGHTNESS

OF INSULATED GLASS UNITS

One of the most significant evaluation criteria for glass units is air tightness in terms of moisture penetration and loss of the glass unit’s internal gas, which serves to increase the thermal or sound insulation properties.

The solutions currently employed by Glass Systems ensure the superior air tightness of glazed units with spacer bars curved or cut in corners.

MANUFACTURING

PROCESS

All our sealed units are bespoke and are made to our customer’s specific order, depending on the glass type, size and any decoration required.

Whatever glass is ordered, the two or three panes are washed using state of art machinery to remove any traces of  grease and fingerprints. The glass is then aligned either side of the spacer bar using a highly accurate frame setting system prior to sealing.
