More investment at Glass Systems Ltd makes things even better

Viprotron ScannerGlass Systems Ltd, part of the UK’s largest independent sealed unit manufacturers, the Glass Systems Group, has invested £40,000 in a Viprotron Scanner to monitor glass quality and further improve efficiencies at their Swansea factory.

Situated on the sealed unit production line, the Viprotron Scanner uses the latest generation of intelligent CCD cameras and an intuitive Windows-based user interface to reliably monitor quality within the assembly process. It enables the operators to quickly identify marks or blemishes to the glass surface, including defects that are sometimes not visible in factory conditions.

Managing director Alan Atkinson comments: “The Viprotron Scanner is another major acquisition for Glass Systems and will significantly improve the quality of sealed units leaving our factory. With the high volume of sealed units we produce any machinery that can help us operate more efficiently, and at the same time improve the quality of the finished product, is not only a huge benefit to Glass Systems Ltd, but also to our customers. It ultimately means we can offer a faster turnaround and still offer the same high quality that we have become renowned for.”

The installation of the Viprotron Scanner is the latest in a long line of investments for the Glass Systems Group in recent years. In 2010 they became the first company in the UK to purchase a Lisec spacer bar bender, with the capability of bending Swisspacer warm edge bar. This followed the installation of three new gas presses into their Bystronic lines and the addition of two new edge deletion cutting lines.

More recently Climate, the Glass Systems Group conservatory roof glass division, purchased a third Lisec automatic arising line, an additional auto-cutting table with edge deletion and a fourth tempering furnace.

“We have invested over £2m across the three business divisions (Glass Systems Ltd, Glass Systems Direct Ltd and Climate) in the last two years” Alan adds. “This has considerably strengthened the infrastructure at the Glass Systems Group and further cements our position as the UK’s leading sealed unit manufacturers.”

The Glass Systems Group manufacture the full spectrum of sealed unit solutions, including Eco-Pane sealed units (the branded name for soft coat units), Pilkington EnergiKare sealed units, and Climate conservatory roof glass. The company also offers the full range of decorative options including Georgian leaded, stained and bevelled units to compliment any installation.
